INTERNAL VACANCY

This vacancy is open to employees of the University of Nottingham only.

We seek to appoint a Nanofabrication Technician to support cutting-edge research at the University of Nottingham.

Metal Atoms on Surfaces and Interfaces (MASI) is a large-scale multidisciplinary project spearheaded by four UK universities (Nottingham, Cardiff, Cambridge, and Birmingham) simultaneously addressing two grand challenges: sustainable use of metals and low-carbon technologies. The project is motivated by natural (limited resource of critical metals) and anthropogenic (overpopulation, global warming) threats rapidly beginning to impact society. The multidisciplinary holistic research methodology of MASI will stimulate innovation across different sectors and accelerate the translation of fundamental discoveries for clean technologies, thus realising the Productive Nation, Resilient Nation and Healthy Nation EPSRC ambitions. The project is funded by the EPSRC Programme Grant for a period of five years.

The Technician will support the successful delivery of MASI by fabricating materials and maintain unique scientific equipment required to implement the research programme. The successful candidate will be joining the School of Chemistry MASI team, which support the MASI research activity, working on nanofabrication of materials for catalysis and energy application to their analytical characterisation. MASI team is staffed by a team of 20 research investigators which will be working closely with the technician on this post.  The School of Chemistry provides excellent dynamic working environment and rich opportunities for technical and professional development and growth.

This is a fixed-term, part-time (21.75 hours per week, 3 full days) post available for 12 months.

Requests for secondment from internal candidates will be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Jesum Alves Fernandes, email [email protected]. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
