The University of Nottingham seeks applications for a full-time Brewing Research Associate/Fellow to join our team at the International Centre of Brewing Science (ICBS) at Sutton Bonington Campus. This key role has been created to strengthen and support collaboration between the University and Murphy & Son Ltd, who are a long-established provider of brewing supplies and technical expertise to the brewing and beverage industries.

The Associate/Fellow will develop their own portfolio of research projects centred around strengthening the collaborations between the University and Murphy and Son Ltd. They will be supported in developing skills and experience relevant to a future career in brewing technical research and its applications in industry.

Candidates must hold a PhD (or close to completion) in a relevant field such as brewing science, malting science, yeast cell biology, fermentation, or a related discipline; and have experience of disseminating their own research findings via conference presentations and publication in peer-reviewed journals. We seek a highly motivated individual with strong knowledge of brewing and fermentation principles and practice and prior experience of conducting brewing research.

Experience of teaching or student supervision in a Higher Education setting is desirable. As a people-orientated individual, you will have the ability to build relationships, influence, and engage collaboratively between the teams at Murphy & Son and the UoN and their wide customer base. This will require strong organisation, time management and communication skills.

The ICBS is in the School of Biosciences, an internationally recognised leader in its field for the provision of both research and teaching. The campus is on a 16-hectare site located in South Nottinghamshire.  A purpose-built Bioenergy & Brewing Science Building was opened in 2011, housing state of the art laboratory, analytical and pilot brewing facilities supporting a research community of Postgraduate and Post-doctoral scientists and delivery of a range of specialist Brewing courses.

Murphy & Son is built on over a hundred years’ research into reliable solutions for bespoke brewing challenges. The company is focused on innovation and sustainability, underpinning a commitment to developing cutting-edge solutions that meet customer demands, evolve industry standards but also contribute to a more environmentally conscious brewing industry.

This is a full-time (36.25 hours) fixed-term post for a period of 2 years. Arrangements for job share would be considered. Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to David Cook email [email protected]. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
