The role will be based predominantly within the Mechanical Team where you will be required to carry out statutory Planned Preventative Maintenance on mechanical systems, mechanical biased reactive repairs and assisting skilled operatives in fulfilling their duties.
The role allows for the provision of assisting with the Fabric and Electrical Team works and statutory testing as may be required.

Job Description
JOB PURPOSE
Based within a host team, the post holder will work flexibly across the Maintenance function, to carry out statutory testing of electrical and mechanical systems, plus providing support with statutory activities in Building Fabric. This may include carrying out basic repairs to electrical and mechanical systems, or basic building fabric repairs. To assist the various Maintenance teams in the general execution of their duties, and providing support with the preparation for electrical installation work or other project work.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Organisation
a. To prioritise own workload and tasks in consultation with Operatives or Supervisor, taking into account where the problem is, the nature of the problem, the number of people affected and the usage of the building.
b. To complete timesheets, maintain service records and other work related paperwork in priority order commensurate with grade requirements
c. To maintain the tools and equipment for which the electricians are responsible.
2. Technical
• Assisting qualified craftsmen in the provision of routine and reactive Fabric and/or electrical and mechanical maintenance on a variety of systems as generated by the computerised docket system and directly from University staff.
• To provide a planned maintenance service ensuring compliance with statutory testing and inspections including;
• Emergency Lighting Testing
• Fire Alarm Testing
• DHW & LPW Systems including cleaning strainers, glass traps, and pump operations
• Fire door checks in buildings across campus
• Paving checks across the Estate
• To respond to individual job requests via the notification system, within academic and commercial buildings across campus, responding to radio requests and emergency situations as and when they arise.
• Carry out lighting repairs and re-lamping duties within all university building.
• Undertake basic fault finding and suggesting repair solutions to M and E operatives considering logistics of the jobs to be undertaken, taking into account how long it will take, the equipment needed and the potential cost
• Support trade’s staff with the installation of minor power systems.
• Collect and dispose of used or old electrical equipment, including batteries, in accordance with Health and Safety/Environmental regulations.
• Comply with all health and safety regulations and University policies
3. Communication
a. Liaise with Estates and other departmental staff throughout the University to advise and assist with planned and reactive maintenance, causing minimum disruption to University staff and other users
4. General
a. Undertake daily maintenance checks on University vehicles used within section including oil, fuel, tyres, windscreen wipers, mileage and keeping appropriate records.
b. Driving of University vehicles to transport staff, materials and tools around the University Estate
c. To undertake any other duties as from time to time may be required commensurate with the grade of the post
d. To order equipment and materials needed for particular jobs or tasks and maintain stock items
e. To ensure all works are completed to a high standard and work areas are left clean and tidy on completion
