The Faculty of Infectious and Tropical Diseases is seeking to appoint a Microscopy Facility Manager and Laboratory Manager for Malaria CL2.

As our Microscope Facility Manager you will play a pivotal role within the Faculty managing, operating and maintaining our advanced microscopy equipment, including unique and bespoke systems. You will provide specialist technical expertise for the users working under ADCP Category 2, Category 3 and/or Schedule 5 constraints, and teaching support for the MSc programme as required. 

As the Malaria CL2 Laboratory Manager you will work closely with academic staff who conduct research in the laboratory, acting as the first point of contact for new users and will have a good overview of all day-to-day activity within the lab. This role is critical in the support of malaria research, and liaises with senior research leaders to manage space, resources, rotas and training to ensure research is carried out safely and effectively.

This role works as part of a team with other Laboratory and Facility Managers, and works with academic staff who conduct research in the laboratory. The role works closely with the Faculty Safety Partner (FSP) and the Occupational Health & Safety Office (OH&S Office). 

The successful applicant will have a degree in a biological science or equivalent experience, significant experience in confocal microscopy, wide-field fluorescent microscopy, time-lapse microscopy and/or in vivo imaging, significant experience of using and maintaining microscopes and understanding of the appropriate microscope to use to achieve objectives. The post is offered on a without duration basis, 28 hours per week, 0.8 FTE. The salary will be on the Professional Services salary scale, Grade 6 in the range £43,947 - £49,908 per annum pro rata (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available.
