Media & PR Manager: Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences for the University of Bath

Are you a naturally collaborative, highly skilled Media & PR Manager with a proven track record in media relations and an eye for a story? We have an exciting opportunity to work in our award-winning and supportive communications team as Media & PR Manager with responsibility for the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences.

The Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences comprises six departments, from health and psychology, to political science, education, economics and social policy. Over the years, its academics have built up a strong media presence across a broad array of topics - from fighting climate change, to developing the sports stars of the future, analysing election results and tackling poverty. At its core the Faculty's research is about people. We need someone who can help us tell stories about this research in compelling and captivating ways.   

Combining energy and enthusiasm with strategic thinking you will have the opportunity to develop your experience in media relations within our world class university. You will be responsible for ensuring the Faculty’s leading research and expertise reaches its target audiences through media coverage as well as contributing to the University’s strategic communications.Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across the Faculty and broader University to spot the right stories to help achieve our strategic aims.
  • Telling compelling stories to the right audiences through creative and insightful content across multiple channels.
  • Contributing to raising the University’s profile, in local, national & international media including via press releases, expert commentary and reactive statements.
  • Providing professional advice on media handling, copy writing and editing, both proactively and reactively.
  • Delivering media training.

Your main skills and experience will include:

  • A flair for building effective working relationships with a laser-like focus on impact and evaluation.
  • An exceptional writer, and storyteller with the ability to select and present content across different channels.
  • Proven experience of reactive and proactive PR, with excellent media relations skills.
  • Knowledge of digital & social media tools and their application to PR & marketing.
  • Experience working with academics to translate complex information into compelling stories would be an advantage.
