Salary            Grade 7: £33,309 - £40,927 p.a. 

We are seeking to appoint a Mass Spectrometry Specialistinterested in applying mass spectrometry and proteomics strategies to elucidate mechanisms of protein degradation and quality control in cellular homeostasis as well as in the context of virus infections, where a significant fraction of host proteins are post-translationally regulated by ubiquitin and ubiquitin like modifiers. 

The postholder will be responsible for carrying out own academic research and contributing conceptually to the project. You will work with limited supervision to identify, develop, modify and apply the necessary techniques to achieve the goals of the project. The postholder should be able to establish and optimise protocols, design and accurately execute experiments and analyse proteomics data. You will assist in dissemination of findings of the research group by authorship of manuscripts, presentation of results at meeting. You will also be responsible for supervising and training junior staff and overseeing the daily housekeeping of the laboratory. 

The postholder should hold PhD/DPhil in molecular/cell biology, biochemistry or bioinformatics. You should have experience in quantitative cellular proteomics, including all the steps involved from experimental design to sample preparation as well as expertise in statistical analysis of large proteomics datasets, and data visualisation/representation tools. Previous excellent publication record, good organisational and communication skills, and ability to work as part of a team are essential. 

Applications from candidates who hold BSc/MSc degree will be considered, to be appointed at Grade 6 with a salary range of £29,614 - £35,326 p.a. with amended duties and responsibilities.
