Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher in Physics-Based Machine Learning in Thermoacoustics (Fixed Term)

A position exists for a Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher in the Department of Engineering, Cambridge University, to work on Physics-based Machine Learning in Thermoacoustics. The post holder will be located in Central Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.

The project will combine adjoint-based sensitivity analysis with automated experiments so that a computer can create an accurate model of a combustion system and eliminate thermoacoustic oscillations, without knowing all model parameters a priori.

The key responsibilities are to: work towards the project's objectives; present and publish research; manage own research and administrative activities; communicate technical material; liaise with colleagues; attend group meetings and training schools in Europe and attend secondments to partners.

Requirements: clear written and spoken English; background in Acoustics, Fluid Mechanics, or Machine Learning; experience in numerical methods and programming; experience with experimental methods is desirable but not essential.

Candidates can be of any nationality. The candidate must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies) in the UK for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the recruitment date. Candidates must be in their first 4 years of their research career and have not yet been awarded a doctoral degree. The 4 years are counted from the date a degree was obtained which formally entitles to embark on a doctorate. Please refer to the HR7/Further Information for more details.

Applicants must have an undergraduate degree or Masters degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or related area.

The successful candidate will be expected to register for a PhD at the University of Cambridge.

Salary: €44895.96 + Allowances (GBP converted equivalent).

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 36 months in the first instance.
