About the opportunity
As the Manager - Engagement, Industry and Academia, you will be responsible for identifying and developing new collaboration opportunities to build the sustainability of SQA and the local quantum ecosystem. You will work closely with the CEO and our partner universities, ensuring a uniform and coordinated approach to industry, government and academic engagement aligned to SQA expectations.
The Sydney Quantum Academy is an unincorporated joint venture between The University of Sydney, The University of New South Wales, Macquarie University and University of Technology Sydney to establish Sydney (and Australia) as a global destination for talent, investment and innovation in relation to quantum technology and the future quantum economy.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, your key responsibilities will be to:
- provide subject matter expertise and support to SQA in industry-academic collaboration
- initiate, design, and deliver strategies, policies and programs relating to the SQA industry-academic partnerships
- identify funding opportunities and coordinate applications
- liaise with government to align SQA initiatives with state and national priorities
- align industry-academic collaborations with other SQA programs and activities - industry engagement, entrepreneurship and education programs
- act as a conduit for researchers to collaborate with industry and government
- in liaison with the Engagement Team, prospect for new engagement opportunities, creating and qualifying collaborations from established partnerships
- take a leading role in supporting the SQA's external advisory committee
- potentially manage one direct report
About you
- academic qualifications combined with demonstrated leadership experience in a complex, multi-faceted environment (such as a university or research institute)
- an interest in quantum technology and understanding of some its potential benefits and impacts
- ability to innovate and build relationships
- experience partnering with industry, academia and/or government to deliver projects with mutually beneficial outcomes
- demonstrated understanding of the processes and frameworks for developing and managing partnership programs
- excellent interpersonal and communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills
- financial management experience and literacy, with experience developing budgets and controlling income and expenditure
- experience preparing proposals or applications for funding will be well regarded
