Salary from £40,229 to £48,456 pa inclusive with potential to progress to £52,095 pa inclusive of London allowance.
This is a career development position and is fixed term for two years and is expected to commence in September 2024.
An LSE Fellowship is intended to be an entry route to an academic career and is deemed by the School to be a career development position. The Department of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method is committed to doing excellent research and teaching in philosophy in a manner that is continuous with the social and natural sciences and is socially relevant. It is also committed to creating an inclusive environment for philosophical debate that engages with a wide range of perspectives.
The department seeks to appoint a two-year LSE Fellow who will, in a manner consistent with these commitments, contribute to the intellectual life of the Department and the School by conducting excellent research and delivering excellent, research-led teaching at both undergraduate and master’s level in philosophy of physics and philosophy of science. In particular, they must be able to make a substantial contribution to our courses Einstein for Everyone, Physics and Uncertainty, and/or Philosophy of Science. The ability to teach in further areas is desirable. The successful candidate will show an excellent research record in philosophy of physics and philosophy of science, and display evidence of outstanding teaching abilities in philosophy of physics and philosophy of science at a level that is accessible to both undergraduates and graduate students at the LSE. The LSE Fellow in Philosophy will participate in research, teaching, and undergraduate advising, with a teaching load appropriate for an early-career faculty member at LSE. Fellows are also encouraged to take full advantage of the Department's vibrant philosophy of science research environment and resources.
Candidates should have:
- A completed PhD (or a PhD near completion) in Philosophy or another discipline relevant to the teaching areas listed above by the post start date;
- A developing, high-quality research record in Philosophy relevant to the teaching areas listed above;
- Excellent communication and presentation skills;
- A proven commitment to excellent teaching and to fostering a positive learning environment for students, as evidenced by feedback from students and colleagues;
- The ability to work in close partnership with fellow teachers, and to provide effective support to students, as necessary.
