York St John University, London is seeking to recruit a talented, proactive, flexible and motivated individual to join the rapidly expanding team as one of the London Student Support and Guidance Coordinators. 

The Team

York St John, London is seeking to recruit a talented, proactive, flexible and motivated individual to join the rapidly expanding team as one of the London Student Support & Guidance Coordinators. The purpose of this relatively new role is to deliver academic and pastoral support to our London students. The role will contribute significantly to facilitating the development of high-quality support provision for students that will enhance the integration of international students into UK university life and the overall student experience. 

The Role

There are three main aspects to this role, the first being the delivery of a successful Academic Skills Programme, designed to support both international and home students. The Student Support and Guidance Coordinator will contribute to the development of content for this programme, delivery of content, engagement monitoring and gathering student feedback.  

The second aspect of this role is to be a main point of contact for wellbeing support and guidance for students at the London Campus. This will include recognising and responding to the support needs of students in distress, using relevant systems to log and report case notes and, in line with relevant policies, signposting/referring to internal wellbeing services, both centrally and in local provision. 

The third aspect of this role is to contribute to the efficient delivery of the Academic Tutoring Programme. This involves ensuring that all students have an Academic Tutor and that stakeholders are trained in the skills necessary to provide tutoring to students. 

This post holder will be expected to communicate and collaborate effectively across wider student support teams including academic quality, employability and library services, as well as other professional services teams in London and York. 

Required Skills and Experience

  • Understanding of the skills development needs of students, at undergraduate and postgraduate level
  • Experience of delivering a skills development programme
  • Experience of providing support to students in distress
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines and work effectively under pressure
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
