London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) Pro-Director Education

Updated: 3 months ago
Location: London, ENGLAND
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 25 Feb 2024

Founded in 1899, the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is a world-leading academic institution globally renowned for its research, postgraduate studies, and continuing education in public and global health. Our mission is to improve health and health equity in the UK and worldwide; working in partnership to achieve excellence in public and global health research, education, and translation of knowledge into policy and practice.

LSHTM plays a critical role in helping the world respond to serious threats to human health. Our teams were on the frontline in DRC in 2019 responding to the world’s second largest Ebola epidemic, and we have been instrumental in the COVID-19 pandemic response. We have 3,500 staff conducting research in over 100 countries, and more than 4,000 students — all working with a collective purpose to improve health worldwide. Our outstanding, diverse, and committed staff and students make an impact where it is most needed - deploying research in real time in response to crises, developing innovative programmes for major health threats, or training the next generations of public and global health leaders and researchers. Today, our staff, students and alumni work in government, academia, international agencies, and health services across the world.

Externally, we face a challenging landscape with the geo-political environment, economic climate, and government funding models all impacting the financial sustainability of the UK’s higher education sector, and with globalisation, urbanisation and climate change shifting priorities in human health. We can also see opportunities for our School by being at the forefront of tackling the world’s greatest issues facing human health, responding to changing skills demands, digital developments, diversifying income streams and more.

We are seeking an exceptional Pro-Director Education to shape and lead our education agenda through a period of major change, vitalising education as core to our mission through capacity building and developing a global community of professionals improving health worldwide. As a member of the Executive Team and reporting directly to Director, you will join us at a pivotal moment as we look to reshape and expand a provision that will be responsive and thrive in the challenges of our changing times. This next phase of our education strategy will build upon our existing strengths, while driving innovation to diversify and modernise our education provision.

This role is pivotal to our future success and we are therefore seeking someone genuinely transformative. With a deep-rooted passion and proven experience of enhancing education, this individual will help us to think and deliver in new and exciting ways. They will have an appetite for leading change and bring proven experience of developing and delivering leading-edge educational initiatives and partnerships, and developing new sustainable income streams that include new kinds of education activity and advisory and consultancy services. With an inclusive approach to leadership, the Pro-Director will have a proven commitment to, and experience promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion.
