The Porters’ Lodge plays a key role in all aspects of College life. It is the central information and reception point for members and visitors and coordinates site security and safety matters, including emergency response. Lodge Porters should have excellent communication skills and be able to undertake and apply training in first aid, fire safety and other emergency procedures. Other essential requirements for the role include the ability to be calm under pressure, have a flexible approach to a varied and demanding workload and be able to work alone and as part of a team. A satisfactory Standard DBS Check is necessary for this role (to be acquired on appointment).
The Porters cover day and night shifts as required including weekends and bank holidays. The contract for a full-time Porter is based upon an average of 42 hours per week to enable the post holder to be paid throughout the year but, when working, a week’s cover will be up to 48 hours. This role is for permanent nights with a shift pattern of 4 on / 4 off.
We offer 24, 12-hour shifts of annual leave per annum, free on-site parking, free use of gym and swimming pool, priority places at a local nursery plus other benefits commensurate with working for a large Cambridge University College.
