The Role and the Department

The post holder will work as part of a leisure team at Queen’s Campus Sports Centre, Stockton on Tees, to deliver the highest possible standards of service and customer care to sports facility users, both indoors and outdoors, and deliver personal training and fitness classes as and when required.
The post holder will be required to work shifts and unsociable hours.
The post holder will assist in the day to day running of the sports centre and deputise for the Assistant Facility Manager as and when is needed. The individual will take lead in the development of fitness programmes, classes and personal training that will provide a full fitness service to students, staff and the general public. Furthermore, the individual will support the generation of income with sports hall bookings and events, supporting users with any requests and queries. This role is based at Queen’s Campus Sport Centre.

Typical Role Requirements
Here are the kind of activities that you’ll be asked to undertake and ways in which you’ll be expected to operate.
Service Delivery
- Show a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion and the University’s values.
- Provide an excellent and timely service to our students, your colleagues, community members and anyone else you come across as part of your role.
- Deliver personal training and fitness classes to facility users.
- Use your experience and problem-solving skills to investigate and resolve routine issues with things relevant to your role such as booking organisation and provide information and updates to help your team find solutions.
- Collect, organise and record data and information accurately and provide reports and analysis as required.
- Promote positive wellbeing arrangements which benefit you and your team.
- Use standard office-based devices and applications such as excel, word, booking systems, social media etc to deliver services.
- Update guidance on standard operating procedures followed by the team.
- Follow established procedures when carrying out your role and vary or refer to more senior colleagues when necessary.
- Assist team members within a wider service team with a rotation of tasks and duties or with own small area of day-to-day responsibility.
- Contribute to the tidying, set-up and maintenance of facilities, equipment and resources.
- Provide direction to service users about the range of classes and activities available and how to access them.
- Supervisory responsibilities over the sport team and day to day running of the centre in absence of Assistant Facility Manager
Teamwork/Liaison
- Supervise and delegate tasks to other members of the team and make sure that they have been completed.
- Explain systems and procedures to new starters and provide advice and guidance when required so that they know how to carry out their role.
- Help to coach assigned team members and provide any ongoing training needs.
- Help your colleagues to organise, plan and prepare for larger events and contribute to team planning activities.
- Resolve queries and respond to requests for information and advice and bring any complex issues to the attention of more experienced team members.
Communication/Liaison
- Seek feedback from students, staff and anyone else that you come across as part of your role on their requirements from your service to ensure that their reasonable expectations are being met.
- Record information [e.g. bookings for activities/events] and respond to queries which you receive about the centre.
- Liaise with staff in other areas to ensure that services are being delivered in an efficient and collaborative way.
- Liaise with external suppliers, contractors, specialists and service providers to plan the delivery of services and events.
- Any other reasonable duties.
