As a result of our recent success and expansion in some of our programmes, the Department of Marketing at the University of Birmingham is seeking to appoint Teaching Focused Lecturers in any area of Marketing for up to a four-year fixed-term period. This is an opportunity to develop and evidence teaching and learning skills at Lecturer level in a research-led, TEF Gold awarded, Russell Group University on a full-time, fixed term basis. In addition, 10% of workload will be dedicated to personal research.

The Department of Marketing is one of six departments within Birmingham Business School. The Department consists of 35 faculty organised across four disciplinary groups: Responsible and Critical Marketing; Consumer Culture Research; Digital Research in Marketing; and Relationships and Networks Research. Our research underpins our teaching across a range of exciting undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the UK, Singapore and our new Dubai Campus. Our Business and Management undergraduate programmes, including pathways in Marketing and Communications, launched in 2019 and currently we have a suite of new MSc programmes in development. The department also has a healthy PhD programme.

We run regular research groups, research seminar series and research clinics, enabling colleagues to discuss their research and teaching in a collegiate and developmental manner. We are committed to supporting colleagues who join us so that they can flourish and develop their academic careers.

The successful applicant will deliver teaching and learning with colleagues across the department on our Business Management undergraduate suite and our postgraduate taught programmes. The successful candidate will deliver an outstanding student experience through on-campus and online teaching to our internationally diverse undergraduate and postgraduate cohorts, leading modules, delivering lectures and delivering and co-ordinating assessments, seminars, marking and supervision in areas relevant to their expertise. Successful applicants may also undertake leadership and service activities in line with the Department, School and College’s strategic objectives.

Person Specification

  • Normally, a higher Degree relevant to the discipline area (usually PhD), or close to completion, or equivalent qualifications
  • Extensive research/teaching experience and scholarship within subject specialism.
  • Proven ability to devise, advise on and manage learning.
  • Skills in managing, motivating and mentoring others successfully at all levels.
