The Department of Accounting is a dynamic team of scholars working together to deliver outstanding teaching for our students.  We deliver a BSc Accounting and Finance and an MSc Accounting and Finance, which both consistently attract large cohorts of high quality home and international students and are exceptional performers in student satisfaction surveys.  Our BSc Accounting and Finance is run in Birmingham, Dubai, and Singapore (in partnership with the Singapore Institute of Management).

The department delivers teaching across a wide spectrum of accounting topics, including financial accounting, management accounting, business analytics, auditing, taxation, social and environmental accounting, and public sector accounting.  The Department is a supportive, inclusive environment.  We aim to foster collaborative working conditions that help everyone to have satisfying work and achieve their own career goals. 

We are seeking to recruit teaching-focussed lecturers on a four-year fixed-term basis.  Applicants should have a higher degree in a relevant discipline and/or a relevant professional qualification. 

Job summary

As a teaching-focused lecturer, you will contribute to a range of teaching and administration duties, including leading modules, designing learning materials, delivering lectures, classes and workshops, designing appropriate assessments and marking. 

This is an opportunity to develop and evidence teaching and learning skills at Lecturer level in a research-led, TEF Gold awarded, Russell Group university on a full-time, fixed term basis. In addition, 10% of workload will be dedicated to personal research or scholarship.  

Main duties

  • teaching and examining courses at a range of levels;
  • where appropriate, undertaking and developing a full range of responsibilities in relation to supervision, marking and examining;
  • developing and advising others on learning and teaching tasks and methods;
  • supervising projects, student dissertations and practical work.

Person Specification

  • Normally, a higher degree relevant to accounting and/or equivalent professional qualifications
  • Teaching experience and scholarship within accounting
  • Ability to design, deliver, assess and revise teaching programmes
  • Experience and demonstrated success in developing appropriate approaches to learning and teaching across accounting topics
