The Department of Psychology is seeking a candidate with demonstrable research quality and teaching ability in health psychology. 


About the role

Research excellence will be the primary consideration for filling this vacancy, with expertise in health psychology or a health-related behavioural science. 

We welcome candidates with research strengths in any relevant area of health psychology. We are particularly keen to receive applications from candidates who complement existing research strengths (e.g., pain, digital health, addiction), or have research interests in health epidemiology and/or health inequality. Candidates will contribute to the teaching of our MSc in Health Psychology.

The University’s research strategy focuses on international excellence, while tackling major global challenges pertaining to three areas of research strength and focus: Health and Wellbeing, Sustainability, and Digital.

  • With a degree in psychology and a PhD in an area related to Health Psychology.
  • With strong communication skills, you will have a breadth and depth of knowledge to lead course development and scholarship activities.
  • You will bring with you experience with impact related to your research and teaching.

We have one vacancy available, and it is offered on a full time (36.5 hours per week) permanent basis. As part of the application process, you will be asked to state which post you wish to be considered for (Lecturer or Senior Lecturer).

Our Department of Psychology is world-renowned for its excellence in research and teaching, regularly appearing in the top 5 in national league tables (e.g., The Complete University Guide). Research in the department occurs across more than six sub-disciplines in psychology, including health, clinical, cognitive, developmental, environmental, forensic, and social psychology. 

The department resides in a purpose-built £30 million building, containing 10,000 square feet of state-of-the-art labs for interview, social group observation, EEG/ERP, virtual reality, psychobiology, eye-tracking, pain, cross-modal, and computerised testing.
