Lecturer/Senior Lecturer Operating Department Practice

Updated: almost 3 years ago
Deadline: 30 Jul 2021

Permanent
Full time (1.0 FTE)
Based at the Medway Campus

Applications are invited for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Operating Department Practice. If you are an experienced UK-HCPC/NMC registered operating department practitioner or perioperative nurse, are enthusiastic about enhancing operating department practice higher education and teaching our students, we would be pleased to hear from you.  You will join an established and ambitious subject team teaching on our apprenticeship, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Medway, and at times other students on health, social care and public health programmes at all HE levels on different University campuses and in practice education settings.

Although this post is primarily advertised as a full time post we do have some flexibility around the hours we have to offer and may consider applicants for part-time positions. Please make it clear on your application what FTE/hours you would like to apply for.

The Role

As a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer, you will use your previous teaching, or high-quality practice experience, as a perioperative practitioner to deliver specialist and generalist knowledge and skills to students at all HE levels. You will use different learning and teaching methods, sensitive to different cultures and students’ ways of learning.  Although for most of the time you will teach our operating department practice students, interprofessional education is a key part of our learning and teaching approach and you will teach students from other professions. Using contemporary evidence, you will prepare students for future clinical practice which supports embedding research into practice for patient benefit. Your level of appointment will be in line with your previous experience and the University will offer you career development opportunities.

You will work within an established and friendly  group of academic and professional staff, and will contribute to enhancing the work and the reputation of the School as a whole, collaborating interprofessionally and effectively with colleagues in the Faculty, University and externally as appropriate. You will undertake scholarly activity, maintain or work towards being research active and contribute to the School’s enterprise and innovation within the UK and internationally. The nature of this contribution will vary according to your experience and your direction of work will be required to fit with the School’s strategic plans. We would particularly welcome applications from those with an interest in improvement methods or the implementation of evidence within perioperative practice.

The Person

We welcome applications from UK HCPC/NMC registered experienced perioperative practitioners who have a minimum of a relevant first Honours degree and/or relevant professional experience.  You will be able to offer high-quality practice knowledge and skills relevant to our ODP students, and be committed to inter-professional higher education. You will have a sound understanding of the UK statutory and professional requirements, evidence of active continuing professional development and have interest in developing your research expertise or extending this further.
