Job summary

The Statistics Section of Imperial’s Department of Mathematics conducts internationally excellent research across a broad range of areas including serious interdisciplinary research, the development of statistical methodology aimed at solving significant applied problems, and cutting-edge statistical theory. Duties and responsibilities

You will work in the field of statistical science, broadly interpreted, and will undertake a self-directed program of research and scholarship at a level commensurate with the current standards of international excellence in the Section. The role will involve teaching in the MSc in Statistics, the MSc in Machine Learning and Data Science (online) and the Undergraduate Mathematics programmes, supervising Research and PhD students in addition to managing staff such as Research Associates. You will promote the reputation of the Statistics Section through scientific meetings, scholarship, and other outwardly-facing activities.


Essential requirements

  • Hold a PhD (or equivalent) in Statistical Science or a closely related mathematical discipline

  • Research interests in some field of statistical science or statistical learning and, ideally, the development of this field in an area of application

  • Proven abilities to conduct a personal research programme at the highest level and to attract competitive research funding, and ability to demonstrate strong leadership potential

  • Experience of collaborative research (desirable)

  • Experience of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and an interest in online education

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, particularly with researchers in non-mathematical disciplines.

Hybrid working may be considered for this role and the role holder may be expected to work 60% or more of their time onsite, with 40% the minimum time spent onsite.
