Updated: 12 days ago
Location: Liverpool, ENGLAND
Deadline: 17 Apr 2024

We are recruiting for two positions in Robotics and Autonomous Systems. We are looking for highly motivated, research-focused individuals who will undertake internationally excellent research and contribute to teaching in the Department of Computer Science at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. One appointment is at the Lecturer level (Grade 8), and the second appointment is at the Senior Lecturer level (Grade 9).

The appointment will be based on the proven research track-record or industrial experience of the candidates. We value research in all areas of Robotics and Autonomous Systems, including but not limited to: robot design, modelling, control, learning, autonomy, and human-robotic interaction. Our topics of interest are both with respect to research that would bolster existing expertise or offers potential for interdisciplinary activity with other areas both within and outside the University. We welcome activity aligned with existing interdisciplinary research that we conduct (see below) or expansion into new areas.

Highly pertinent to this vacancy is the Department¿s leading role in the Digital Innovation Facility (DIF). An environment that is purpose-built for collaboration, the DIF facilitates opportunities for Computer Science researchers to collaborate with colleagues across the campus at Liverpool as well as collaborators and industrial partners outside the University. Our main collaborators within the University are the departments of Electrical Engineering and Electronics; Psychology, Sociology, and Law; the Institute of Ageing and Chronic Disease; and the Department of Chemistry. Our external collaborators include the Royal Liverpool University Hospital; the Alder Hey Children¿s Hospital; and our business partners. The post-holders are expected to contribute to the further development of links between the Department and its collaborators to enable research on robotics and autonomous systems to grow and flourish in Liverpool.

We value the diversity of our Department and welcome applications from all sectors of the community. We recognise that many individuals value flexibility in their work/life balance and we will consider applications to work on a part-time, flexible and job share basis wherever possible (a minimum of 0.5 FTE). We are working to improve the gender balance in the Department of Computer Science, and we particularly welcome applications from women.

Please note that in terms of responsibilities and recognition, the position of a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in the UK is comparable to that of an Assistant/Associate Professor, respectively, in the United States. Please direct informal enquiries to Professor Charlie Yang, email: [email protected]

The University has the right to close the vacancy early if it is deemed that there have been enough applications received
