Salary: Lecturer (UH7): £37,099 to £44,263 pa dependent on skills and experience.

Senior Lecturer (UH8): £44,263 to £56,021 pa dependent on skills and experience.

Annual Leave:  35 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year.

Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield

The School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science - Department of Engineering is seeking to appoint a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Reinforced Concrete Structures or a related subject area, to support our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Civil Engineering & Built Environment subject areas. The applicant would ideally have specific knowledge and experience in one or more of the following subject areas (with focus exclusively on concrete structures):

•       Design of reinforced concrete structures

•       Retrofitting, repair, and rehabilitation

•       Additive manufacturing

•       Performance based design

•       Fracture mechanics and crack analysis

•       Structural reliability and risk assessment of structures

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will undertake teaching and assessment in engineering and technology modules, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. You will also support learning through design and development of course materials including online content and undertaking necessary tutorial, laboratory, and administrative activities.

You will be expected to contribute actively to research interests of the school and develop short courses, commercial and KTP related activities in the school. You will supervise postgraduate research projects and apply for external funding to support research and commercial activities.

For the role of Senior Lecturer, you will also undertake an administrative role in the school assisting with programme management, or other similar duties, provide leadership in an aspect of research or commercial activities and undertake other duties within the framework of the post as delegated by the Head of Department or Head of Subject Group.

Skills and Experience

You must have experience of working in Civil Engineering and Built Environment within the domain of reinforced concrete structures either within Higher Education or in a relevant sector. In addition to this you will need proven experience of teaching or tutoring at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level. You must have a strong commitment to teaching, learning and student support at University level and a potential willingness to attract external funding in research or enterprise. You will have demonstrable proficiency in English Language, with excellent oral and written communication skills. You must have a strong desire to enthuse and engage our students and be effective within a team setting. We will also expect from you a willingness to develop module and programme level material whilst also demonstrating a commitment to continuous improvement and to undertake professional qualifications where appropriate.

For the role of Senior Lecturer, you must have substantial experience of working in the domain of reinforced concrete structures or closely related areas. You will also be required to have a strong track record of research publications and/or industrial experience and evidence of securing external funding. In addition to this, you must have the knowledge and demonstrable experience to contribute to the School's teaching and research areas.

Qualifications Required

You must hold a minimum of a first degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or a related subject area.

A doctorate or equivalent level 8 qualification in Design of Reinforced Concrete Structures or related subject area is essential for the role of Senior Lecturer. Chartered Engineer status in Civil/Structural Engineering or related subject areas is desirable.
