The School of Human Sciences is based within the newly refurbished Dreadnought building on the World Heritage site at the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich. These facilities, including bespoke new laboratories, are part of significant investment in the school and an aspect of our long-term plan to build internationally leading research and teaching in the faculty. As part of this investment, we are looking to appoint two dynamic and engaged public health professionals to help grow and develop the school. We will be developing our portfolio of postgraduate taught programmes, including consolidating the success of our existing MSc In Global Public Health and our new MSc in Global Health Management. This compliments and extends our provision in, for example, our BSc H Public Health programme.
You will be joining a School and Faculty that is building a strong interdisciplinary and cross-professional approach to solving the grand challenges facing society. We are looking for colleagues who will have a commitment to maintaining and building the University’s excellence in teaching and learning, and who are doing research that has the potential for significant long-term academic and societal impact.
We particularly welcome applications from individuals with an interest in the field of global health with specific expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Health economics and finance
- Health systems
- Health policy
This adds to our already strong coverage of core curriculum areas and clear research interest groups.
As a faculty we also welcome candidates whose research work will resonate with one or more new interdisciplinary Faculty Research Centres within the Institute for Lifecourse Development:
- Centre for Chronic Disease and Ageing
- Centre for Exercise, Activity and Rehabilitation
- Centre for Inequalities
- Centre for Mental Health
- Centre for Professional Workforce Development
- Centre for Thinking and Learning
- Centre for Vulnerable Children and Families
The school has an active and growing research base and performed well in REF2014. Our current performance and continued investment will lead to even better performance in REF2021 and beyond. The University is currently rated TEF silver, reflecting our excellent teaching and learning, and we have realistic aspirations to achieve a TEF rating of ‘gold’.
We are looking to attract individuals with a strong profile who can demonstrate commitment to teaching excellence and innovation and want to develop their record of research. Candidates would be expected to have a PhD. All candidates must demonstrate a commitment to developing their profile of international-quality publications, together with appropriate experience of teaching in the HE sectors for this level.
We aim to be an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all sections of the community.
We look forward to applications from candidates who can demonstrate a passion for and a clear commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion as well as the mission, values, and aspirations of the University.
Informal enquiries can be made to Professor Russell Luyt (Head of School); email: [email protected] and telephone: 020 8331 8867.
Should you have any queries please contact the HR Recruitment Team on [email protected]
The university welcomes people from diverse and underrepresented communities who can help the university to achieve its mission.
We do this through taking positive action such as encouraging applications from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic, disabled and LGBT+ people. As part of our commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Time to Change Employer Pledge/Mentally Healthy Universities, we are committed to promoting and supporting the physical and mental health of all our staff and removing barriers to improve inclusion.
We encourage applicants to disclose their experience of mental health problems so we can support them fully during our recruitment process and make any necessary reasonable adjustments. Any information disclosed will be kept confidential and separate from the job application form.
We are making significant strides to understand and continuously improve our employees’ experience and we are committed to implementing progressive diversity talent management. We are looking for people who can help us deliver our mission of transforming lives through inspired teaching and research, through our values.
