The Centre for Vision, Speech and Signal Processing (CVSSP) at the University of Surrey seeks to appointment at Lecturer/Senior Lecturer level in People-Centred AI. This role is aligned with the University’s focus on AI as a strategic priority and the recently established Surrey Institute for People-Centred AI with CVSSP at its core. 

Ranked first in the UK for Audio-Visual AI, CVSSP is internationally recognised for pioneering ground-breaking research which benefits society through technological innovations in healthcare, security, entertainment, robotics and communications for over 35 years. The Centre is internationally unique in bringing together expertise in both audio and visual machine perception, with the central goal of creating machines that can see, hear and understand the world around them. CVSSP is ranked 1st  in the UK for research in Computer Vision, 4th  in AI and 5th  in Robotics (csrankings.org).

The Lecturer/Senior Lecturer post will enable a talented individual to join a world-class research environment to establish and lead a personal research portfolio in the field of machine learning, audio-visual machine perception, natural language processing and related area contributing to People-Centered AI, within the strategic framework of the Centre and Institute. Postholders will also take the lead in teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level within the University’s School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering.

Successful applicants will be exceptional researchers with the potential to become future research leaders. They should be able to demonstrate a strong track record of high-profile publications, and experience in developing successful research proposals and securing research income. They should also be familiar with developing, delivering and assessing teaching programme units.
