Salary

Lecturer - Full time starting salary is normally in the range of £45,751 to £50,798 per annum with potential progression to £63,059 per annum Senior Lecturer - Full time starting salary is normally in the range of £55,753 to £61,942 per annum with potential progression to £76,988 per annum


About the Role

This role will have a significant impact on the shape and future direction of our Centre’s education and research activities. You will join the management and teaching team of our MSc in Advanced Lightweight and Composite Structures. The role will also build an independent portfolio of research and PhD supervision. The contribution will be primarily be in the area of advanced lightweight materials and structures. Specific responsibilities will be:

  • To deliver modules for the MSc in Advanced Lightweight and Composite Structures
  • To deliver short courses for delegates from industries
  • To supervise PhD and Masters students
  • To work with colleagues for funding applications to research councils, industry and other research funders
  • To build a personal portfolio of funded research, and develop new industrial and academic collaborations
  • To undertake multidisciplinary research and disseminate results via high quality academic publications 

About You

We are looking for an ambitious and collaborative professional with a PhD, or equivalent, in a relevant subject  to materials and structures who would be responsible for the development and delivery of research and high-quality teaching at postgraduate level in one or more of:

  • Material characterisation and failure simulations
  • Advanced FEA simulation for impact mechanics
  • Fracture and damage mechanics of engineering materials
  • Design and analysis of composite materials and structures
  • Multiscale modelling of materials and homogenization algorithms 

At Senior Lecturer level, we expect the candidate to provide leadership, such as course management, business development, preparing large funding bids, acting as a Principal Investigator on funded research projects and managing collaborative networks of researchers linked with industry. Candidates with expertise in UK, EU and public sector funding are particularly encouraged to apply. We also welcome applicants with related industry experience who would like to develop a career in academia.
