Job Description

We are looking for a talented, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic individual to join our collegial team and to help deliver and further shape our provision in Graphic Design. The successful candidate will contribute their expertise to deliver and further develop a range of modules on our BA (Hons) Graphic Design course, and they will also contribute to learning and teaching across the wider School of Design, where appropriate. 

The successful candidate will play an important role in developing the knowledge and skills of our undergraduate and postgraduate students, and work as part of the wider School of Design team to provide professional mentorship, deliver robust assessment, appropriate student support, and overall maintain a high-level of learning and teaching supported by industry-informed expertise. 

About you

As a graphic design practitioner and lecturer you have awareness of the critical issues in contemporary graphic design skilled in both traditional and digital media platforms including interactive. You should be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of key industry standard design software, and be able to deliver key skills in graphic design which might include for example: 

  • Typography
  • Conceptual development and message making
  • Brand design and publication design/editorial design
  • Art direction
  • Interactive design
  • Design for sustainable outcomes.

About the Role

  • Design and deliver teaching material and assess learners within and across the subject and related areas in pursuit of the academic strategy of the School of Design
  • To contribute to pedagogical innovation, curriculum development and planning with the School in support of the University’s teaching and learning strategy 
  • To engage in relevant research and scholarly activity in support of the University’s research strategy, to inform and enhance curriculum design and improve student experience 
  • To seek external funding for this activity and help develop ideas for new revenue streams 
  • To participate in and contribute to internal/external networks, engage with the relevant academic communities and build productive relationships with industrial bodies, professional associations, employers and practitioners as appropriate 
  • To ensure that responsibilities identified within internal processes, QAA codes of practice, HEFCE guidelines, external accreditations, etc. are robustly met 
  • To undertake administrative duties associated with the normal planning and operational procedures of the department and school 
  • To undertake recruitment, publicity and promotional activities in the interest of the School and University 
  • To contribute to the range of other professional responsibilities shared by tutors within the department 
  • Where appropriate, to mentor colleagues with less experience, advising on their personal development 
  • To carry out any other duties commensurate with the grade and scope of the post
