Harper Adams University is the premier institution for land based higher education within the UK. The University is located at the centre of a 382 hectare working form within the beautiful Shropshire countryside that supports a number of enterprises including arable and dairy. The farm operation has recently been restructured and there is a renewed focus on technology and data driven agriculture. This is referred to as the Harper Adams Future Farm. Harper Adams University is also home to the pioneering Hands Free Farm and also the Agri-EPI Centre Midlands Innovation Hub, where industry and practitioners are working together on the latest precision technology for sustainable arable and livestock systems.

This role is a career-enhancing opportunity to for a suitably qualified and experienced individual with a strong interest in applied data science to join our friendly team within the Agriculture and Environment Department. Suitable candidates will have a first degree in an appropriate subject area and a relevant higher degree, (typically a PhD) AND/OR have appropriate postgraduate level technical knowledge and expertise relevant to the post. Irrespective of background, candidates should have a strong interest in the application of statistical and data analysis techniques and modelling to support research within the agriculture, land use and environmental sectors and also a passion for delivery of teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The role will require the postholder to lead and contribute to a selection of undergraduate and postgraduate modules explicitly looking at aspects of data science. Some of this delivery will be at a site at Station Quarter, Telford, which is currently under development (https://www.harper-adams.ac.uk/news/210055/new-facilities-highlight-innovation-growth-across-telford-and-wrekin ) to support BSc Applied Data Science. The new undergraduate provision complements the post graduate offering of MSc Data Science for Global Agriculture, Food and Environment.

Candidates should have an interest and track record in applied data science and aim to pursue research and knowledge exchange activities in this area. The postholder will also be encouraged and supported to develop a successful research programme dependent on personal interest and the University Strategy. There is also opportunity to provide consultancy on behalf of the University and to deliver online and short courses to the sector. There is freedom within the role to develop interests and to work with other organisations and partners of relevance. Applications from individuals with an established academic record demonstrating research experience and a portfolio of publications would be an advantage.
