IVES was created in 2020 to integrate cutting-edge teaching and research in human and animal infectious diseases, veterinary science, ecology and evolution to benefit people, animals and ecosystems, nationally and globally. Its work addresses major societal challenges, including emerging infectious diseases and disease control/prevention, food security, antimicrobial resistance and the impacts of environmental change. IVES has an active international research programme with projects around the world, and with some staff based at research centres in Malawi, Kenya, Ethiopia and Singapore. Consistently positioned amongst the top in the world, the School of Veterinary Science has a commitment to innovative veterinary education and clinical research, hosting two on-site working farms as well as two referral hospitals, and three first opinion practices. The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences also hosts Shared Research Facilities providing access to world-class equipment and expertise in Bio-imaging and Multi-Omics, as well as the Centre for Microbiome Innovation to support research.

You should have an excellent CV providing evidence of high-quality publications in the field of microbiology/infectious diseases AMR research relevant to One Health and independent funding, that can contribute to meaningful impact.

As an academic member of staff of IVES, you will be expected to contribute to the development of innovative teaching on undergraduate and Masters level courses on the programmes that IVES deliver. Teaching will also involve provision of pastoral care, preparation for and delivery of lectures and practicals, running tutorials, setting exam questions, marking, supervision of student projects. Given the importance of teaching, you will be expected to obtain a teaching qualification through the university, if you do not have one already and be enthusiastic about student experience. You will also be expected to contribute more widely to the IVES community and collegiality.

The University has the right to close the vacancy early if it is deemed that there have been enough applications received
