The University of the West of Scotland (UWS) established a joint institute in partnership with Wuxi Taihu University (WTU) in 2020 - “The Scotland  Academy” at WTU in Wuxi, China. We are seeking to appoint a talented and motivated individual to join the academic team at The Scotland Academy. All programmes are taught in English.

UWS’ School of Computing, Engineering and Physical Sciences has a reputation in student-centred learning and a global reputation in research and knowledge transfer activities. It is the winner of the Times Higher Education’s Knowledge Exchange/Transfer Initiative of the Year, 2020. The School continues to develop important partnerships supported by significant investment in academic posts in line with its strategic development and to help further the position of the School as a key player nationally and internationally.

We welcome applications from dynamic individuals with an expertise in mobile and web technologies, computer science, computer networking or software engineering. You will be a highly motivated individual, an inspirational educator with a global outlook, passionate about your discipline and dedicated to delivering an outstanding student learning experience. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to develop their research with UWS in collaboration with Wuxi Taihu University and other UWS partners.  

You should have a PhD in Computer Science, Web and Mobile Computing, Software Engineering or related areas. We would particularly welcome applicants with expertise in the following areas: programming (Java, Python, PHP, other internet scripting languages, etc.), networking, web and mobile systems programming, web server technologies and, database design, development and applications.  You will have a track record of achievement and innovation in teaching & learning in mobile and web technologies, computer science, computer networking, software engineering or other relevant area in a higher education context. 

You will be able to demonstrate a commitment as a member of the teaching team to delivering high-quality teaching and supporting an engaging student experience. You should have experience in overseeing the setup of practical computing laboratories. 

An attractive package which includes a relocation allowance, private healthcare insurance and accommodation allowance will be offered to the successful candidate. The candidate should be eligible for a Chinese visa and be available to start in February 2022.
