The role

The Social Sciences team deliver teaching across all years of the Dental School curriculum both independently and in conjunction with clinical staff. We are seeking an additional part time (0.8) Pathway 3 Lecturer in Social Sciences to work with Dr Nilufar Ahmed and Dr Patricia Neville to support the delivery of teaching. 

What will you be doing?

The main responsibilities of the role will be support the current teaching of the team. This includes traditional large group lectures and small group teaching such as seminars, tutorials and flipped classrooms for undergraduate dental students using pre-prepared materials, and assist with marking student assessments. There will also be opportunities to develop new materials for the new curriculum. You will contribute towards the advancement and organisation of curricula and teaching methods within the Dental School. You will also be expected to provide both academic and pastoral advice and support to students as required, and supporting the team in leadership roles. Although teaching is the priority for pathway 3 staff, you will also be expected to engage in independent scholarly activity. Time will be allowed for engaging with the University’s Cultivating Research-rich Education and Teaching Excellence (CREATE) scheme. 

You should apply if

The role requires a relevant first degree in psychology, sociology, or other social or health science and a PhD or close to completion in sociology, psychology, public health, or a related discipline.

The ability to communicate information effectively both orally and in writing to a diverse range of audiences, excellent organisational skills, time management and an attention to detail, an ability to work independently and in a team, and an ability to work in a collegial and supportive manner with academic and professional services staff at all levels in the University are required.

Salary: £38,587 - £43,434 per annum pro rata
