Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Simulation

Updated: about 2 years ago
Deadline: 10 Feb 2022

About the vacancy: A new and innovative opportunity has arisen to join the School of Health and Social Wellbeing, supporting programmes within the School of Health and Social Wellbeing at Glenside campus at UWE Bristol.

The post will involve working with programme teams and partners to design and deliver simulated experiences, aligned to professional standards regulatory bodies and practice requirements.  The post holder will develop and design these simulated experiences, using a variety of approaches, which will include, digital learning, virtual placements, low fidelity simulation (i.e. role play, standardised patients, peer learning) and high-fidelity simulation (i.e. using manikins).  You will assist in delivering the simulations across our healthcare programmes, but will have a particular focus on the Future Nurse programme, which is our largest programme within the School.

This role has a great blend of aligning contemporary practice, into simulated activities that support and enhance students’ skills acquisition.

About you: We are seeking an NMC registered nurse (Adult, Children and Young People, Learning Disability or Mental Health) with a first degree or equivalent education experience. You will have recent experience designing, supporting and delivering innovative teaching and learning to learners, particularly nursing colleagues.  Successful candidates will be visionary, dynamic; adaptable; innovative and creative.

Simulation is traditionally considered as a learning approach to deliver physical health skills, but this is now shifting to be recognised as an effective approach that can help people to learn and develop; professional values, person-centred care, communication skills and many other ‘professional skills’.  Therefore, the candidate does not need to be an `expert’ in physical health delivery, but an expert in understanding how we can deliver the Future Nurse standards in a meaningful way for all students.

You will have excellent organisational skills and can manage projects from start to evaluation.  You will have experience of working with practice partners and the public, to co-create high quality learning experiences.  You will have experience of working as part of a team as well as working autonomously.

For the successful candidate, there will be opportunities to be supported by UWE’s academic practice directorate, academics, learning technologists and the technical skills team, to help them succeed in their role and their career with UWE Bristol.

Where is this role based?

This post is based at our Glenside Campus which is set within beautiful grounds in Stapleton, just three miles north east of Bristol City Centre. Regular bus services link the campus to the main Frenchay site, the city centre and surrounding areas, and nearby Bristol Parkway train station.

Home to UWE's Faculty of Health and Applied Sciences , Glenside Campus offers excellent teaching facilities, these include a selection of inter-professional simulation suites, enabling students to practice and develop professional competencies, and one of the best health care libraries in England.
