The role

The University of Exeter has recently developed an innovative new MA Publishing programme based in the Department of English and Creative Writing. This programme places particular emphasis on cultivating excellence through industry connections, research and the acquisition of professional skills. In addition, it is a programme committed to making positive change in the industry: embedding issues concerning access and representation through the curriculum, moving the study of global publishing practices beyond Euro-American models, and reinforcing Exeter as a UNESCO City of Literature and a growing hub for literary and creative industries in the South West. The successful applicant will have an independent research programme and industry connections that will strengthen and complement this work.

About you

You will have:

  • A relevant PhD (obtained or nearing completion) or equivalent professional experience within the publishing industry and/or publishing-related organisations
  • Knowledge and experience of the publishing industry, preferably gained from working in the field and including an awareness of current developments in digital publishing, in order to develop teaching and research programmes in Publishing
  • Teamwork skills to work in collaboration with the Creative Industries team at Exeter.
  • A strong record in attracting research funding, or demonstrable potential to attract such funding
  • An understanding of the importance of equality and diversity within an organisation and a commitment to helping create an inclusive culture
  • An active and supportive approach to inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary research that will help to foster interactions and links both within the University and externally.
  • Enthusiasm for delivering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes
