Communications is an exciting and interdisciplinary subject area in the world-leading Department of Communications, Drama, and Film: a creative and supportive community of 50 staff active in research, pedagogy, and professional practice, and over 800 undergraduate and postgraduate students. Our internationally excellent research is produced within research centres in Interdisciplinary Screen Studies, Contemporary Creative Practices, Performance Histories and Cultures, and Digital Cultures and Communications.
We are committed to teaching, practice and research that makes a positive change in the world. The BA Communications degrees comprise a spine of compulsory modules that provide students with a grounding in the history of technology, research methods, Communications, Media, and Cultural Theory, and practical skills in various aspects of digital media design and content delivery. These modules are supplemented by a wide variety of optional modules from cognate programmes across the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences. Our new MA in Media and Communications will launch in September 2023. Students are supported by excellent purpose-built facilities, and unique research resources such as the Bill Douglas Cinema Museum and Digital Humanities Lab.
The role
The exciting new post of Lecturer in Promotional Media will contribute to extending the research profile of at Exeter, particularly in critical approaches to advertising, branding, public relations, and marketing. The successful candidate will teach on existing Communications modules at BA and MA level and lead the development of new modules in their areas of expertise. They will attract postgraduate research students and research funding, and develop collaborative professional partnerships within and beyond the institution.
About you
For a Lecturer post you will have:
- A PhD in Media and Communications, or a related discipline such as Cultural Studies or Sociology, and have an active, independent, and internationally recognised research programme
- A strong record in attracting funding for research, or demonstrate potential to attract such funding
- Enthusiasm for delivering and developing high quality undergraduate and postgraduate modules and have substantial prior teaching experience at university level.
- The potential to make strong connections and funded projects with business and community partners
- The potential to participate and lead projects which have impact
- An evidenced commitment to equality and diversity within an organisation and a commitment to helping create an inclusive culture
- HEA Fellowship status or be committed to gaining this award within 18 months of appointment.
- An understanding of the importance of equality and diversity within an organisation and a commitment to helping create an inclusive culture
- Teamwork skills to work in collaboration with existing group members
