ABOUT THE ROLE

The Geography Department is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Physical Geography, whose research interests would complement and strengthen the excellent work of the Environmental Dynamics research group and enrich the teaching delivery and portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes. The position has been enabled by QUERCUS, an European Research Council funded project, which aims to study the climate of the past using stable isotopes in tree-rings.

Applicants will be conducting research that advances the frontiers of at least one of the Environmental Dynamics group’s research foci and we are particularly interested in candidates able to offer teaching and research expertise in dendrochronology.

The successful candidate will be expected to deliver teaching at undergraduate level and contribute to the delivery of our postgraduate schemes, such as the MSc in Environmental Dynamics and Climate Change, and MSc Geographic Information and Climate Change. There may also be an opportunity to supervise postgraduate research students.

The successful candidate will be employed on an enhanced research career pathway and will be able to demonstrate an excellent research trajectory, having evidence of working collaboratively and successfully in an interdisciplinary research environment. They will actively engage with and enhance the Environmental Dynamics research group: https://www.swansea.ac.uk/geography/research-and-impact/environmental-dynamics/  . Alongside research excellence, the post requires high-quality student-centred teaching and a commitment to enhancing the overall student experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels (taught and research), to equality and diversity, and a contribution to academic administration and management within the Department, School and Faculty.
