The Department of Psychology at Lancaster University is currently seeking to recruit three additional members of Academic staff to join our growing Department.

The positions listed below are strategic appointments to develop and enhance our research and teaching:

For the Senior Lectureship we are especially interested in candidates whose research is in Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience. 

The Department of Psychology at Lancaster University has a core complement of over 40 members of academic staff and a thriving community of post-doctoral researchers and PhD students across the four research areas of Developmental Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Neuroscience and Neurocognition, and Social Processes. In the Psychology Department we conduct world-leading research to elucidate neurocognitive, behavioural, and perceptual processes across the lifespan, in neurotypical and clinical populations. We are interested in how such processes function both on an individual level, as well as when interacting with others ‘brain-to-brain’.

As well as a multidisciplinary and vibrant research culture, we have an excellent research environment for testing both children (including infants) and adults with a rich source of the latest technologies for examining neurocognition, including Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, Multi-channel Transcranial electrical brain stimulation, several Electroencephalography setups, functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy, eye-trackers, motion tracking, Virtual Reality Suites, Computational Neuroscience facilities, Biophysics, sound-proof Auditory laboratories, and functional Transcranial Doppler. Research equipment is shared collegially across research groups, which also serves to foster innovation and new thinking across research specialisations.

The Department has a strong tradition of collaborative research across traditional boundaries within Psychology and beyond. We have a research building dedicated to behavioural and neurophysiological testing across the lifespan, supported by Psychology research technicians and a dedicated lab manager for the infant developmental facilities: one floor houses labs devoted to infant and childhood studies including equipment for EEG/ERP (EGI), fNIRS, eye tracking, fetal 4D scanning, motion tracking and behavioural observation; the other is devoted to adult studies, housing much of our neuroscience equipment, as well as basic computing labs. 

Lancaster University’s Psychology Department incorporates two ESRC Research Centres: The International Centre for Language and Communicative Development (LuCiD), which focuses on early communication in collaboration with expertise across the North West of England, and the ESRC Centre for Research and Evidence on Security Threats (CREST), the UK’s hub for behavioural and social science research into security threats. Both of these groups drive interdisciplinary research across the UK, combining neuroscience with behavioural and data analysis methods.

We support our research through personnel as well as facilities. A dedicated technical and resources team support the implementation of our research, including on-site, off-site, and online testing. We have a healthy adult participant pool through Sona and a large database of families interested in taking part in developmental research. We have well-established relations with local nurseries, schools, hospitals, and charities.

Lancaster University excels in both teaching and research.
