Applications are invited for the post of Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering within the Department of Mechanical, Biomedical and Design Engineering of Aston University. Successful candidates will be expected to be research active and demonstrate a student-centred teaching focus with experience and enthusiasm for teaching in subjects related to Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Finite Element Method (FEM), and Multiphysics System Design. 

We are particularly keen to hear from applicants with research interests and a well-established or developing reputation in Fluid-Structure Interaction with application of CFD and FEM to one or more of the following areas: fluid flow around wind turbines, aircrafts, high-speed trains, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), unmanned underwater vehicles (UUV), underwater structures, or biomedical systems such as heart valve dynamics and blood flow in arteries. 

Applicants must have a first degree and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. We would also expect applicants to hold a formal teaching qualification such as a PGCHE, FHEA or above, or be willing to achieve this once in post. It is desirable that applicants are familiar with virtual learning environment (VLE) software such as Blackboard or Moodle.

The successful applicant will be expected to develop teaching materials, teach and assess students using a variety of formats including lectures and tutorials for the whole class and individual projects. An effective and evidenced track record in learning and teaching using these modes is essential as is a record of positive student feedback. 

In addition, applicants may be expected to be play a key role in the Department operation including acting as personal tutor to students, taking part in open days and helping with outreach activities. Where appropriate, there will also be opportunity for involvement in, or leadership of, key operational areas.
