We’re looking for a committed and creative Lecturer in Marine Engineering to join our team here at Brockenhurst College on a full time, permanent basis.  In return, you will receive a competitive salary of up to £41,217 per annum. Additional points may be awarded for market forces depending on experience and suitability of the successful candidate.

About the role:

As the Lecturer in Marine Engineering, you will continually improve the learning experience and achievement of students through effective teaching and assessing.

Responsibilities as our Lecturer in Marine Engineering will include:

  • Undertaking a teaching commitment as defined by the college, this will include delivering both theory and practical (workshop) classes.
  • Undertaking the role of personal tutor and deliver tutorials and conduct progress reviews with students.
  • Promoting high attendance across the study programme and follow up all non – attendance and unauthorised absence.
  • Planning, developing and delivering teaching learning and assessment on an agreed range of courses using   appropriate delivery methods which considers learning styles, learning methods and new technologies.
  • Marking students work and ensure that feedback is constructive to enable the student to further improve including spelling, grammar, and punctuation as part of the feedback.
  • Contributing to the design, delivery and future planning of the study programme and take responsibility for specific course organisation and curriculum development work.
  • Managing the delivery of the blended learning curriculum for your course ensuing that students complete the required number of hours as stated in the study programme allocated hours.

As our Lecturer in Marine Engineering, you’llideally have:

  • MCA OOW Certificate of Competency REG111/1 Unlimited
  • Level 3 Certificate in Marine Engineering
  • Merchant Navy Officer, with a minimum of 12 months’ sea time or Royal Navy Equivalent with a minimum of 12 months watchkeeping
  • Knowledge and understanding of the requirements of the Merchant Navy Cadetships
  • Experience of using maritime/bridge simulators
  • Commitment to take part in staff development and training
