Working as part of multi-disciplinary teams, you will assist the Head of Department to maintain, enhance and improve the Law School's national and international reputation in your academic field. 

Demonstrating your continued academic attainment and achievement, you will provide academic leadership through contribution to your discipline and the life and work of the Law School.

Northumbria Law School is one of the largest law schools in the UK. It ranked fifth for staff returned to REF2021 and 7th when measured by research power. Its wide-ranging research interests are focussed around three research groupings: Northumbria Centre for Evidence and Criminal Justice Studies;  Law in Emerging Contexts: Space, Global Sustainable Futures; and Technology and Law and Society.  It delivers a wide range of academic and professional UG and PGT programmes and has a vibrant PGR community. Its long-term record for innovation and excellence in legal education is exemplified by its multi award winning Student Law office. 


You will be able to undertake, with appropriate support and guidance, individual and collaborative research projects resulting in excellent outputs of sufficient volume, quality, and impact to meet the terms of the next Research Excellence Framework (REF) exercise, identify research funding opportunities and make appropriate applications to secure funding for personal and joint research or scholarly activities.

You will be able to contribute to learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and, where appropriate, on short/professional courses. Teaching areas of particular interest are contract, tort, criminal law, public law, land law, equity and trusts and English legal system. The ability to teach across more than one of these areas would be particularly desirable. 

You will be able to deliver programme and module administration, acting as a Module Leader as appropriate.

You will be able to commence duties at Northumbria Law School from September 2024.
