Job Purpose

To contribute to an excellent learning student experience by delivering, designing, organizing and reviewing teaching, assessment and administration processes associated with undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Human Geography.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1.    Deliver a range of teaching, supervision and assessment activities across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes within the Subject/School.

2.    Carry out course administration within required timescales ensuring effective communication of information, in particular assessment requirements and criteria coupled to timely and constructive feedback.

3.    Contribute to the on-going development and design of the curriculum in a manner that supports a research-led and scholarly approach to student learning and assessment in the discipline.

4.    Make effective use of learning technologies to support and enhance course delivery, course organisation, feedback and assessment. This may involve blended and/or online provisions.

5.    Ensure an inclusive and evidence-based approach to facilitating learning in a range of face to face and potentially online delivery formats (e.g., tutorials, field work, lectures, problem-based learning), that promotes student participation and intended learning outcome attainment.

6.    Develop effective working relationships with students and, in partnership with relevant student services teams, respond appropriately to the diverse range of learning approaches and learner needs.

7.    Participate in activities associated with student recruitment, orientation and induction and other School and University initiatives such as support for student transitions, employability, and student mobility as appropriate.

8.    Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.

9.    To contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, World Changers Together

10.  Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Experience 

Qualifications

Essential:

A1 Relevant PhD or equivalent teaching experience in Geography/Social Sciences, specialising in human geography.

Knowledge

Essential:

C1 Extensive breadth and depth of knowledge in human geography, including quantitative and qualitative methods applied to the investigation of a variety of geography related topics.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

E1 Track record of delivery of teaching.

E3 Proven ability to design, review and enhance multiple learning, teaching, and assessment programmes.

E4 Ability to communicate complex or conceptual ideas to those with a variety of background knowledge.

E5 Ability to contribute to broader leadership and management activities along with an awareness of current and future priorities of the University/College/School/Service.

Desirable:

F1 Training in Higher Education pedagogical techniques and/or theory, equivalent to associated fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.

F2 Experience with widening participation initiatives

F3 Experience with school -age and/or life-long learning students.

F4 Continuing engagement with current pedagogic practice and developing knowledge.

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 7, £39,347 - £44,263 per annum.

This post is full time and fixed term for up to 6 months.
