Lecturer in Geography, Climate Change and Society

We welcome applications for a fixed-term (three year) Lectureship in Geography, Climate Change and Society (Teaching and Research) to join our collegial team.

The successful candidate will join a friendly department with a significant record of world-leading research across the discipline. In the recent REF2021 Geography at Sussex was ranked 3rd in the UK for the impact of our research.

The lectureship will add capacity to the research and teaching strengths of our dynamic team of researchers in the Department of Geography associated with the Climate Change and Society research cluster and the Sussex Sustainability Research Programme .

In the past few years we have achieved significant success in securing research funding, with several large grants focused on climate science and the social, environmental and health impact of climate change.

Under the direction of the Head of Department, the successful candidate will contribute to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level including our MSc Climate Change, Development and Policy and our recently established BSc Geography, Sustainable Development and Climate Change.

We want candidates with a proven track record of research and teaching in climate change and its geographies. We welcome applications from natural and social scientists, and are seeking to recruit someone with strong quantitative and data analytical skills.

We are looking to build strength in data science and the role will also involve teaching in this area, including GIS, statistics and quantitative methods.

It is expected that the successful candidate will have a PhD in Geography or closely related field.
