Salary
Full time starting salary is normally in the range of £44,001 to £49,048 per annum, pro-rata with potential progression to £61,309 per annum, pro-rata
The Centre for Defence Chemistry has been working on propellants, explosives and pyrotechnic research for decades. We are interested in all aspects of defence manufacturing, vulnerability, combustion, and life assessment of energetic materials. We have an explosive license to manufacture of explosives, propellants and pyrotechnics, a dedicated hazard testing facility and an explosive range at the Cranfield Ordnance Test and Evaluation Centre (COTEC).
About the Role
You will be responsible for:
- Lecturing on existing Masters and short courses, specifically in the area of explosive engineering
- Developing and delivering education in explosive engineering and specifically the safe handling, transportation and storage of energetic material and ordnance munitions and explosives
- Providing explosive education to CDS staff responsible for dismantling, handling, using and disposing of explosives
- Contribute to the supervision of explosive science MSc research and PhD projects
- Advise and support CDS staff on the use of explosives in the laboratory
- Where possible introduce academic staff to external networks in the area of explosive safety and engineering to promote investment and future development
About You
You will have an MSc or equivalent knowledge in explosive engineering/technology/safety or similar, related to the area of energetic materials or munitions, ordnance and explosive devices. Experience of lecturing at Masters level, developing teaching programmes, and delivering explosive demonstrations is essential. You will have a wide knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation and an understanding of safe handling, storage and transportation of explosives.
A teaching qualification (PGCert in Academic Practice or equivalent and/or Membership of Higher Education Academy) or willingness to undertake this type of qualification is desirable.
