Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have an established background in human cardiovascular physiology? Do you want to further your career in one of the UKs leading research intensive Universities?

A major objective of our school is to drive advances in biomedical research to prevent and manage human disease. As an exercise physiologist you will work with a vibrant, dynamic research group. You will be embedded within Sports and Exercise Sciences in the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBMS) and will complement our exciting research portfolio. Research in exercise physiology spans both fundamental and applied research, covering a wide range of areas. Our current emphasis concerns integrative exercise physiology, bridging basic science foundations to translational benefit in health and disease.

We are looking for applicants with a strong research portfolio primarily focused on exercise physiology to complement our existing research strengths, such as cardiovascular, respiratory and/or muscle physiology. We will consider applicants with research interests covering all aspects of the discipline, from cell and molecular aspects, to organ and organismal integrated function.

You should have a PhD in Exercise Physiology, or a related area, together with a track record of original publications and evidence of grant income to support research activities commensurate with career stage.  You should also have experience in human cardiopulmonary exercise testing, cardiac or vascular imaging, near infrared spectroscopy and/or other techniques related to exercise physiology.  You would contribute to our undergraduate programmes across the school, specifically Human Physiology, Physical Activity and Health and Sport and Exercise Sciences, in addition to our postgraduate MSc in Sport and Exercise Medicine. The primary criterion for appointment will be academic excellence.
