DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURAL ECONOMICS AND EXTENSION

LECTURER IN ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND AGRIBUSINESS MANAGEMENT

Qualifications and Experience 

The successful candidate must possess a PhD from a recognized university, which should be in one of the following areas or any other closely related field:

  • Entrepreneurship with prior qualifications in Agribusiness Management; or
  • Entrepreneurship with professional experience in Agribusiness Management; or
  • Agribusiness Management with an emphasis on Innovation or Entrepreneurship 

    • Candidates should also possess:

    • Ideally at least three (3) years’ teaching experience at a recognized tertiary institution
    • Experience in teaching courses related to Entrepreneurship
    • Good record of research and publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals
    • Proven expertise in teaching in at least one (1) of the following areas:
    • New Venture Creation
    • Innovation
    • Business Planning
    • Entrepreneurial Finance 

    For 1. and 2. above, candidates with advanced level training in Innovation would have an advantage

    For 3. above, candidates with other degree in Entrepreneurship or a closely related field would have an advantage 

    All candidates with the following would have an advantage:

    • Experience in teaching courses related to Agribusiness Management
    • Experience in teaching courses at the postgraduate level
    • Experience in successful supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students
    • Experience working with local and regional public and private sector business groups or institutions
    • Prior experience in business ownership or management in the agribusiness field
    • Experience in management in the food sector
    • Experience of collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams, field research and on-line teaching
    • Training and ability to teach in at least one (1) of the following areas:
    • Micro, Small and Medium-sized Business Development
    • Entrepreneurial Law
    • Customer Insight Analysis
    • Logistics Management
    • Value Chain Analysis
    • Management Information Systems
    • Prior success in co-managing a Student Incubator Facility
    • Prior success in the analysis of entrepreneurship data at the national or regional level 

    The following would be considered assets:

    • Training in Agriculture
    • Advanced training in Agricultural Economics
    • Experience in teaching courses related to Agricultural Economics
    • Industry experience
    • Good track record of developing thematic research programmes and history of attracting research funding
    • Experience in applying research findings to satisfy industry needs
    • Experience in revision of existing curriculum or development of new curriculum to keep abreast of developments in entrepreneurship
    • Experience in venture capital mobilization
    • Proficiency in both face-to-face and online teaching
