Sheffield Institute of Education (SIoE) offers sector-leading initial teacher training in Early Years, Primary, Secondary and Post-16 education and is rated Outstanding by Ofsted across all four phases. We are currently seeking applications for a post within our Initial Teacher Training provision, with specialist expertise in English and Drama. The programmes associated with this role prepare trainees to teach across Key Stages 1 to 4, with opportunities to also work with trainees from our SCITT partner schools.
The successful applicant will teach English and Drama across our QTS programmes. The role includes responsibility for the teaching, learning and assessment of undergraduate and postgraduate students, alongside working collaboratively with our partnership schools to support trainees' placement experiences. The post holder will contribute to the delivery of a high-quality curriculum that enables trainees to develop strong subject knowledge, pedagogical understanding, and reflective practice in English and Drama education.
Staff members often teach across different areas of our provision. The successful candidate will predominantly teach within the Primary age phase but will be expected to be able to contribute to both Primary and Secondary Initial Teacher Training (ITT), as well as other related teaching at undergraduate and Master's level. The role will also involve undertaking school visits and providing academic advising and support to trainees.
We actively encourage staff to develop their own research and scholarly profile, particularly in areas related to curriculum development and teacher education. A range of opportunities and support mechanisms are available to enable all academic staff to engage in research, knowledge exchange and professional practice.
You will be contractually enrolled into the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS) – one of the largest and most generous defined-benefit pension schemes in the country.
If you are offered this post you will be subject to an enhanced with barred lists check by the Disclosure and Barring Service. A criminal record will not necessarily prevent you from working at Sheffield Hallam University but its relevance to the duties of the post will need to be assessed before the appointment is confirmed.
Sheffield Hallam welcomes applications from all candidates irrespective of age, pregnancy and maternity, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, race, religion or belief, or marital or civil partnership status.
For this job we particularly welcome applications from ethnic minority applicants who are underrepresented in this area/this type of job at Sheffield Hallam.
The role is not likely to be eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route so if you are an international applicant, you will need to ensure you have an appropriate visa to evidence the necessary right to work in the UK. For more information, please visit the
UKVI Guidancebefore applying.
We recommend you download the job description and person specification when you apply, as this will not be available once the job has closed.
