Lecturer in English - Part time 0.5, Fixed term (2 years)
We are looking for an enthusiastic, open-minded individual to join our growing English Suite of programmes. We are the top modern UK university for English (Complete University Guide 2019), and all members of the English team are research active.
Founded in 2007, the undergraduate programme has consistently strong NSS ratings. In September 2019, we are also launching an exciting new MA Digital and Public Humanities, which combines academic study with practice- and community-based learning. Our programmes encourage an outward-looking approach in teaching, learning and research. Members of the team have worked with a range of non-academic partners, from Edinburgh UNESCO City of Literature and Edinburgh International Book Festival, to Surgeons' Hall Museums and the Scottish Prison Service.
We are based at our Merchiston Campus, in the School of Arts & Creative Industries (SACI), located in the beautiful and historic heart of Morningside, Edinburgh. The School hosts a range of undergraduate and post-graduate programmes, and plays an active part in the creative industries in Scotland. To find more information about SACI please click here .
You will contribute to the delivery of our successful English Suite, including BA (Hons) English, BA (Hons) English & Film and BA (Hons) Acting & English.
You will primarily be responsible for teaching at undergraduate level and may also be asked to contribute to our MA. You will be expected to teach flexibly across the curriculum and historical period, likely to include 'Critical Contexts', 'Cultural and Literary Theory' and 'Nineteenth-Century Literature and Culture'. You will also act as Personal Tutor for students and supervise research students and dissertations at undergraduate or postgraduate level as appropriate.
Who we are looking for
You must have a doctorate in English with a research specialism in contemporary literary studies and an ability to teach literary and cultural theory at introductory level. You will demonstrate a high level of experience in developing, designing and delivering teaching and student-centred learning. You will have a record of REF-able publications commensurate with career stage, and a research plan with potential for external income generation.
We are looking for a colleague with enthusiasm for cross-disciplinary engagement who is comfortable working independently and as part of a team. Additional skills and experience in digital humanities would be welcome but are not essential.
The post holder should be a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy or eligible for a fast-track application.
