Flexible working patterns will be considered.

It is anticipated that a hybrid working pattern can be adopted for this role, where the successful candidate can work from home and the office. However, as this role is contractually aligned to our Milton Keynes office it is expected that some attendance in the office will be required when necessary and in response to business needs. We’d expect this to be up to 10 times a year and normally not more than once a month.

Full time starting salary is £45,585 to £46,974 per annum, with potential progression when in post to £54,395 per annum.

Internal candidates already within the salary banding will remain on their current spinal point as per policy.

The role

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Lecturer to join the Open University’s Faculty of Wellbeing, Education and Language Studies (WELS).  You will be part of the undergraduate Education Studies (Primary) team situated in the School of Education, Childhood, Youth and Sport (ECYS).  In addition to running the successful undergraduate Education Studies programme colleagues may have opportunities to contribute to the Masters programme, postgraduate research, the Postgraduate Certificate in Education in Wales and global projects with our partners.

This is an excellent opportunity for a colleague to contribute to the:

  • development and delivery of modules and resources in the undergraduate programme area of Education Studies (Primary)
  • Faculty’s programme of research and scholarship.
  • academic development and organisation of the programme, School of Education, Childhood, Youth and Sports, the Faculty and The Open University 

Skills and experience

  • A higher degree (Masters or above) relating to Education Studies (Primary).
  • Relevant experience of HE teaching and assessment that engages and retains students.
  • Experience and a recognised qualification relating to teaching children aged 3 – 12 years.
  • The knowledge and experience necessary to contribute to the development and production of modules in Education Studies (Primary).
  • A strong commitment to excellence in inclusive learning and teaching for a diverse student population.
  • Demonstrable experience of having used digital technology for a variety of purposes including learning and teaching.
  • The ability to engage in research, scholarship or knowledge exchange through activities such as publications and/or widely recognised and disseminated contributions to learning and teaching in Education Studies (Primary).
