Primarily based at Singleton Campus
This post is based within the Department of Economics, which is situated in the School of Social Sciences. The Department currently consists of twenty academic staff with a varying number of research officers and a thriving community of post graduate research students.
The Department of Economics is home to a collection of highly research-active academics with wide-ranging interests and specialisms. Along with the School of Management, the Department of Economics submitted to the Business and Management Panel in REF2014. This resulted in a top 30 ranking overall and a top 10 ranking for 4* (world-leading) research impact. Three of the four submitted impact case studies came from the Department of Economics, showing our commitment to making world-class impact.
Alongside its research activity, the department prides itself on its vibrant undergraduate, postgraduate and PGR programmes. The department has close connections with numerous educational bodies and has received repeated external recognition for its teaching activities, including the receipt of funding and awards for pedagogical innovations.
The Department of Economics is seeking to strengthen further our research activities by building on, complementing and/or expanding research areas already in existence within the department. We have particular strengths in labour economics, macroeconomics, regional economics, monetary economics and econometrics, value interdisciplinary research and believe in the importance of obtaining external funds to support our research.
Research activities within the Department are supported by:
- A Research Hub providing support on research funding
- A dedicated bid-writer to support grant applications
- Substantial personal research/development allowances
- A sabbatical programme
More information about the Department can be found on our website: Economics
