About Cranfield Forensic Institute
Cranfield Forensic Institute (CFI) provides a Centre of Excellence for the application of science and technology to law enforcement particularly through niche areas of forensic science. We offer a suite of highly successful forensic postgraduate degrees and short courses. Research and development underpins the educational activity of the CFI. CFI has relocated to Cranfield Campus, and has benefitted from £7.2M of investment funded by the University and South East Midlands Enterprise Partnership (SEMLEP). As a result of this investment digital forensics has a dedicated, newly-designed, bespoke facility with incredibly well-equipped labs for teaching and research. This is a great opportunity to shape the research direction of the new digital forensics group, with a very significant portion of your time dedicated to digital forensics research.
About the role
You will undertake research and teaching on the new and developing role of Digital Forensics within Cranfield Forensic Institute. Pursuing an active, internationally recognised research agenda, aligned with the Institute’s research strategy, and publishing in relevant, high-quality, peer-reviewed journals. Enhancing the Institute’s professional standing, reputation, and impact in Digital Forensics.
About you
You should have experience of digital forensics as an academic, police officer, practitioner, or a related area, either in the UK or Internationally. Primary responsibilities of this role will include:
- Continued production of high impact research, particularly in the field of digital forensics.
- Delivery of the MSc Digital Forensics in collaboration with our strategic partner CCL (Solutions) Group Ltd , a leading commercial practitioner in the sector. You will have a rare opportunity in the digital forensics field to be integral to that partnership, with academic research feeding into practise and real-world problems driving research.
- Development of new specialist elective modules and short courses.
You will be expected to contribute to the ongoing development and delivery of a range of educational products, in particular Modules for the MSc in Digital Forensics and collaboration with the Forensic Programme and the MSc Investigative Sciences to offer cross cutting modules to ensure that ‘Digital’ is suitably represented across the suite of CFI courses.
Ideally, you will have a PhD (or nearing completion) in a relevant academic subject and experience of relevant research within an academic or other environment with a record of high-value peer-reviewed publications. However, you can also be considered if you have an MSc in a relevant subject with significant practitioner or industry experience, and a willingness to undertake a PhD. The University has a Research and Innovation Office to support academic staff in their applications for funding and collaborative opportunities.
In return, the successful applicant will have exciting opportunities for career development in this key position, and to be at the forefront of world leading research and education, joining a supportive team and environment.
