Applications are invited for a Lecturer (level 5) in Curating and Cultural Leadership, to contribute to both our MA in Contemporary Curating and our MA in Arts and Cultural Leadership (launched 2023), both in the Department of Art and Media Technology at the Winchester School of Art. The School, which recently celebrated its sesquicentennial, is part of the University of Southampton. With access to world-class facilities including the Winchester Gallery and the John Hansard Gallery, and complementary academic programmes including Fine Art, Creative Technologies, and Global Media, you will be well placed for exciting professional development in our diverse and innovative academic community.  

Our one-year postgraduate MA programmes offer students the opportunity to combine critical analysis of disciplinary issues ranging from ethical decision-making and creative audience engagement to marketing and fundraising with industry experience throughout the cultural sector. Your contributions as an educator and researcher with hands-on experience in the field will be key to offering students guidance and mentorship that ensures their success.  

About the role 

We seek candidates with a strong professional network in and/or beyond the UK who will contribute to the research and teaching activities of the MA in Arts and Cultural Leadership, the MA in Contemporary Curating, and across the department of Art and Media Technology. As a researcher, you will develop and sustain a research programme that contributes to the School’s standing as a leader in knowledge exchange as part of the University’s triple-helix strategy. As part of our education community, you will design and deliver instruction and assessment, help guide curriculum development in your home programme and across the department, and provide guidance to students. 

As a successful candidate, you will have the following qualifications: 

  • A strong network and experience with creating sustainable relationships with external partners 
  • A track record of substantive, sustainable, innovative research in a field related to curating and/or cultural leadership 
  • Evidence of excellence and innovation in teaching and learning   
  • Hands-on experience as a curator and/or in arts leadership 
  • A meaningful commitment to questions of sustainability, equity, and social justice in the context of your teaching and research 
  • A record of professional and academic activity at the leading edge of arts and cultural leadership pedagogy 
  • Experience with and enthusiasm for engaging and mentoring students in collaborative external partnerships with an eye to employability
