As one of Coventry's biggest employers, we offer some pretty impressive benefits including an excellent pension scheme and generous holiday allowances.

This is an exciting time to join Coventry University and the School of Psychological, Social and Behavioural Sciences. Having achieved a University Gold TEF rating, ranking 2nd in the UK for Teaching Excellence, and outstanding NSS scores in our courses we have demonstrable excellence in student experience. As a global University, our contribution to teaching excellence extends beyond our UK campuses, and the School of Psychological, Social and Behavioural Sciences works with partner organisations in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and South-East Asia. Additionally, we offer global experience opportunities through teaching and research-related activities to both staff and students, and we have a strong commitment to the internationalisation of our curricula.

As a commitment to our investment in Criminology, we are now looking to appoint an outstanding and experienced Criminologist to join our highly regarded, and student-focused team.

The successful post-holder will take an important role in the Criminology team and help to deliver the next phase of the School’s ambitious growth and development plan. Working with the School’s Head, Deputy Head, Associate Heads, Curriculum Lead and Course Directors, the post holder will be pivotal in realising new course provision. This role provides an excellent opportunity to help shape the direction of Criminology at Coventry University over the next period.

The School delivers three undergraduate Criminology courses and has developed postgraduate provision. We welcome applications from candidates with a strong background in a core area of Criminology as well as the capacity to work across a broad range of curricula. Applicants with expertise in ‘cybercrime, psychological perspectives on crime and/or language and criminal justice’ are particularly encouraged to apply.

You should be an innovative, solution-focused, experienced academic and/or practitioner with a track record of inspiring others. Your approach should be inclusive, flexible and ensure our stakeholders are placed at the centre of everything we do. As a truly modern University, we are particularly interested in receiving applications from applicants with experience of online delivery and/or curriculum development. As the role will also require you to develop and maintain productive relationships with placement providers, employers, and other stakeholders, you will need a high level of inter-personal skills, and personal effectiveness to promote a high-quality experience for all our stakeholders. You will have a strong commitment to continuing professional development and to inter-professional and international perspectives

The School is recognised for the high quality of its provision of applied and professional courses. This includes a broad portfolio of on-campus, off-campus, blended and distance learning courses both discipline and profession specific. The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences has strong partnerships with employers and placement providers from a range of sectors including Local Authority Social Services, Strategic Health Authorities, NHS Trusts, education, and the independent, voluntary and the private sectors.  Applied research activity is an integral part of the Faculty’s business and there is a strong commitment to enabling staff to engage in scholarship. However, for this post, the role holder will be expected to focus on academic leadership and teaching and learning in the first instance.

Applicants should hold, be completing, or be willing to undertake a PhD, and publications or equivalent outputs will be an advantage. Applicants from a professional practice background are also encouraged to apply and should hold a good Honours/Masters Degree and appropriate professional qualifications and experience and be willing to embark on study for a PhD. Applicants must demonstrate an experience of delivering in an educational setting. Coventry University offers academic support and professional development support and provides the opportunity for staff without a recognised teaching qualification to undertake the PGCE.
