About the role

This appointment will enhance research-led education within the Department of Art & Media Technology and extend the international reach of our research and enterprise activities.

You will make a substantial contribution to undergraduate teaching and curriculum development on the new BSc Creative Computing, whilst also teaching across the Department of Art & Media Technology in accordance with your specialisms.

About You

You will demonstrate a commitment to education and an ability to bring your own research to bear on the enhancement of our undergraduate programmes.

You will have a lead role in the programme delivery of BSc Creative Computing, with an emphasis on technically-underpinned creative applications and experiences.  The programme draws on theories of play, the ethics of technology, intersectional justice and representation to develop creative technical interventions in contemporary contexts, from everyday and lived experience to the climate crisis and sustainability. This is a new programme, starting in 2024, so you will be integral to its development and future.

You will have a history of practice-led education and direct practical skills related to, for example, programming for creative applications, the making of prototypes, interactive installations, and data-driven art works. We particularly welcome applications from candidates able to teach in some of the following areas:

  • Creative coding applications and platforms (e.g. Processing, Open Frameworks, P5.js, TidalCycles)
  • Coding languages including Python and web-based coding
  • Visual programming platforms such as PureData, VVV, TouchDesigner, Max/MSP
  • Machine Learning frameworks
  • Generative AI platforms
  • Human Computer Interaction
  • Micro-controllers (e.g. Arduino, Raspberry pi)
  • Sensors, IoT, wearables
  • Immersive tech, including VR/AR/XR
  • Creative informatics and data-driven design
  • Games and playable media

You will have an established research trajectory in the broad field of technology, creativity and culture. Your research can be scholarly or practice-based in its application and outputs.

The school welcomes high levels of collaboration and a keenness for interdisciplinary work is an advantage.  There will be opportunities for PhD supervision.
