FTE: 1.0 FTE (37 working hours per week) 

Duration of Contract: Permanent 

Salary: UH7 £37,099pa to £44,263pa 

Annual Leave: 35 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year 

Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield

Applications are invited to apply for an academic position as a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science, University of Hertfordshire within the Human Centred Computing academic subject Group.

The department has an international reputation for teaching and research, with nearly 90 academic staff, divided into five academic subject groups.  In addition, we support 150 adjunct staff, and 70 research students and postdoctoral research staff.  With a history going back to 1965, the department supports one of the largest cohorts of students in the UK, including thriving online provision.

Main duties and responsibilities

The post holder will contribute to teaching and learning activities including; delivering high quality teaching, learning and assessment to our students at all levels.  As a lecturer, the postholder will be expected to have sufficient experience to lead modules and develop teaching and assessment materials in the advertised areas.

The postholder will also provide pastoral and academic support for home and international students. The Lecturer will play an important role as part of a team incorporating the Head of Department or Subject Group Leader, programme leader, module leaders, the professional, administrative and technical staff (if applicable), the Dean of School and the Associate Deans of School.

The post holder will also be expected to contribute to teaching in mainstream areas of Computer Science, and modules with particularly large groups of students.

Skills and experience required.

The postholder will provide high quality teaching, research, and module leadership in Computer Science with expertise that will contribute to our Human Centred Computing academic subject group with demonstrable experience and expertise in all or most of the following areas:

•       Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)

•       Accessibility conformance testing

•       HTML, CSS and JavaScript

•       Experience with WAVE, Google Lighthouse or similar tools

You will possess excellent communication skills in English and have demonstrable experience of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level.  Whilst face to face teaching is expected, you maybe required to teach in a blended mode or wholly online.

It is desirable that the postholder has a track record of publication, external research funding, collaboration across disciplines, experience of different types of assessment and higher education quality assurance.

Qualifications required

Minimum of an undergraduate degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification in relevant discipline, or equivalent experience.
